Why Man Utd need to land Vlahovic in January
Manchester United have emerged as the latest club linked with Serbia star Dusan Vlahovic.
The Fiorentina man has become one of European football's hottest prospects after scoring 13 times in 15 appearances.
And his numbers this season further back up his 21 goals in 37 outings last term, as the 21-year-old continues to attract the elite clubs around Europe.
The Serbian striker has scored seven times for his country in just 14 caps and will be starring at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
United's new era
Now Man Utd have jumped to the front of the queue after Vlahovic reportedly rejected an approach from Arsenal.
Ralf Rangnick is close to being confirmed as the interim manager at Old Trafford and will assess the current playing squad.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are 36 and 34 respectively and with Rangnick's tendency to prefer young, quick forwards, a move to replace those two is likely.
At 6 ft 3 in, Vlahovic offers a different option than the likes of Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford and Rangnick is tasked with starting a rebuild to bring back trophies to Old Trafford.
Fiorentina have already tried to deter a January move from the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Newcastle by slapping an €80 million price tag on the player, but with the funds available to spend, United will not be put off by that.
Haaland or Vlahovic?
United are also keen on Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund but face competition from Real Madrid, PSG and cross-city rivals Manchester City.
Vlahovic might become the more viable option for United as even €80 million could prove cheaper than Haaland, when wages come into consideration.
A January move to get in ahead of the other parties would make sense and Vlahovic has rejected a new contract tabled by Fiorentina with his current deal due to expire in 2023.
