Bruce backed to be a 'fantastic' interim manager at Man Utd
Steven Bruce would be a "fantastic" option as Manchester United interim manager, club legend Peter Schmeichel has claimed.
United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday following a dismal drubbing at the hands of Watford in the Premier League.
Michael Carrick was in the dugout for Tuesday's 2-0 win away at Villareal amid rumours that Ernesto Valverde is ready to take over on a temporary basis.
It is still unclear whether the hierarchy at Old Trafford are looking for an interim manager until the summer or the long-term replacement with names such as Ernesto Valverde, Erik ten Hag and Carrick himself all emerging in the last few days.

And Schmeichel, speaking on the CBS Champions League show to Jamie Carragher, mentioned former team-mate Steve Bruce as the perfect man to take the role for the rest of the season.
He said: "If it's an interim, get someone who knows the club, get someone who is known by the club as well, get someone like Steve Bruce, that would be fantastic. Or get the next guy in now!"
Bruce has been out of work since he was sacked as Newcastle manager in October following the club's takeover.

United fans not having Bruce
And he would be an unlikely candidate to inspire the fans who long for the glory days brought to them under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Commenting on Twitter after CBS posted a video of Schmeichel's comments, one fan said: "Just goes to show that just because you played football, it doesn’t mean you’re a football expert."

Unlikely to be Bruce
Thankfully for United fans, it seems a far-fetched notion that Bruce could take over at United.
The club are struggling to get the fans back on their side, and already have a fractured relationship with the club supporters.
If it is an interim appointment, Carrick has done himself no harm with leading his side to an away win in the Champions League, although Valverde remains favourite.
