Chelsea, Man Utd and possible destinations for Digne after Benitez spat
Lucas Digne's future at Everton is in doubt after a disagreement with manager Rafa Benitez last week.
The French full-back had been a key player in Benitez's Everton side for the majority of the season, but the relationship between player and manager soured after a recent argument on the training pitch.
According to a report from the Athletic, Digne argued with Benitez is Spanish, questioning the tactics and playing methods of the Everton boss.
Digne was subsequently left out of the squad for the game against Arsenal despite being the club's only fit and available left-back.
Though things may calm down between the pair, with Digne contracted at Goodison Park until 2025, there is still the possibility that he could seek a move away from the club.
Here are a few clubs that could be interested.
Chelsea
At the moment, Chelsea currently have Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell in their ranks.
However, they were dealt a blow during a Champions League encounter with Juventus when Chilwell suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The initial prognosis was six months but it is believed Chilwell could return quicker.
Even still, Alonso has had his share of injury issues this season, too, so Thomas Tuchel may look to strengthen in this position.
Digne would also fit in perfectly in the system at Stamford Bridge as Tuchel utilises a left wing-back.
Man Utd
When Ralf Rangnick was asked as a pundit in 2020 where Man Utd could improve, he suggested Luke Shaw may not be good enough for the club.
When asked specifically about what position United could strengthen, he said:
“They could do with a left-back. I know they have Luke Shaw but I’m not so sure if he’s still on the same kind of level you need for a club like Manchester United.”
Shaw has indeed been fighting for fitness after suffering a concussion since Rangnick's arrival which has led to Alex Telles taking his place in the team.
But, Telles has performed well enough that Shaw might have dropped down the pecking order.
If Rangnick truly doesn't rate the Englishman he'll need a long-term solution at left-back and if Digne is available it could be a no brainer.
Juventus
A few years ago, Alex Sandro was considered to be one of the best flying full-backs in Europe.
However, like Juventus as a whole, his standards had dropped in more recent seasons which could lead to the Bianconeri searching for a replacement.
Digne has been linked with Juventus previously as Carlo Ancelotti allegedly wanted to include him in a swap deal for midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
He turned down the move then, but might be more open to it now.
