Revealed: Why Kalvin Phillips would snub Man Utd for Liverpool move
Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a move to Manchester United, but the will have to look elsewhere to solve their central midfield problems, according to a report in The Sun.
Man Utd have long been looking for an additional central player to add to their ranks and that urgency could step up a notch this summer if they are unable to tie Paul Pogba down to a fresh deal.
The Red Devils have explored several options, among them Leeds star Phillips, but the England star’s future may be taken out of their hands, with the 26-year-old instead preferring a switch to Liverpool.
Who are the world's most valuable footballers?
Why Phillips will not move to Man Utd
It is reported that Phillips is ready to reject a move to Manchester United because of his loyalty to Leeds, who have long had a fierce rivalry with the Old Trafford club.
For the supporters, it would represent a serious breach of trust if he were to switch to the Red Devils. Phillips does not want to harm his legacy at Elland Road and would, therefore, prefer a move to Liverpool.
Phillips loyalty to the club is not surprising. He joined the youth system at Leeds when 14 and graduated through the system to become a first team regular in the Championship and then Premier League. He is known to be a favourite of head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Such were the strength of Phillips’ performances last term, he was called up to the England national team and went on to play a starring role as the Three Lions made a run to the final of Euro 2020.
While Phillips has his pick of clubs, Manchester United and Liverpool are the two teams leading the way for the Leeds star, who is valued at €19 million by FootballTransfers’ algorithm.
