Frank Lampard: Chelsea future is beyond my control
Frank Lampard has been philosophical about his future as Chelsea manager, admitting that he knows his job is on the line.
The Blues were defeated 2-0 by Leicester away from home in the Premier League on Tuesday. It was their fifth defeat in eight matches, including an FA Cup tie against League Two outfit Morecambe.
Chelsea are said to have been looking at alternatives to replace the former England midfielder, who was scathing of his side’s attitude in the loss.
On his own future, though, Lampard admitted uncertainty.
“Expectations at this club are high. That is something that will always be there,” he admitted.
Asked if his future lies at Chelsea, he said: “It is not my decision if I stay. Some things are always beyond your control. That I can’t answer.”
Lampard slams Chelsea display
Previously, Lampard confessed to being anxious about the current form of his side.
“I’m worried. From the form that we were in, to be so quickly in the form we’re now in… Five losses in eight, that’s not where we want to be,” Lampard told Sky Sports. “We were where Leicester are a month ago, we were flying.
“If you come off it, you suddenly realise you’ve got a little lack of confidence.”
The biggest concern Lampard had, though, was the lack of industry from his players.
“We were beaten by a better team. They ran more than us and showed more quality than us. We look like a team out of form,” he admitted.
“There were a lot of moments in the first half when we didn’t look sharp. The bare minimum is to run, sprint, cover ground, and we didn’t do that.
“The most disappointing thing is to come here and to lose a game. The basics off the ball are important. On the ball, we were alright but overall our game wasn’t there.”
