Lampard in danger of being sacked by Chelsea after spending so much – Gallas
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas believes Frank Lampard is “in danger” of losing his position as manager of the Blues due to the amount of money he spent in the transfer window not fully translating into performances.
Chelsea spent over £220m in the summer on Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, and Edouard Mendy, while Thiago Silva was brought in on a free transfer from PSG.
But, despite a relatively positive start to the new campaign apart from a home loss to Liverpool, they have been on an appalling run recently, winning just one out of their last six games.
They have now dropped to ninth in the Premier League table.
Gallas believes Lampard is under pressure to save his job, especially due to the transfer outlay in the summer, even if the Frenchman exaggerates the amount Lampard actually spent.
“I think Lampard’s position is in danger. He’s not in a good position right now as they’re not in the top three at the moment,” he told PlayOJO.
“They spent a lot of money so the board want to see Chelsea winning the Premier League. I thought this season that they had a great chance to win it, but at the moment I’m sure the board aren’t happy with the results which is why I’m sure Frank is in a dangerous position. He needs to try and finish in the top three or win the Premier League.
“When you spend almost £250m on players, that means you want to win the Premier League and the moment Chelsea’s position isn’t good. They’re not performing against the big clubs.

“The pressure is on Frank and he needs to find the solution very quickly because as we know, when you are the manager of Chelsea you can be sacked very quickly. The pressure is on him and he has to find the right system.
Gallas has also questioned by Lampard continually plays Werner despite the German not being in good form, and reckons the player’s pricetag is what is leading to him starting most games.
“They bought Werner for a lot of money, which is why perhaps Frank is playing him in every game, but if the player isn’t showing the quality, maybe they have to change the players in the team,” Gallas continued.
“I hope Frank finds the solution as soon as possible because he’s a young manager, but I’m sure he will be a great manager in the future. He’s very passionate and he knows football very well.”
Werner has started 16 games for Chelsea in the league this season, scoring four goals and recording four assists.
