Hudson-Odoi: New role under Tuchel “worked perfectly” for Chelsea winger
Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has praised Thomas Tuchel’s new role for him in the team as working “perfectly” in getting the best out of his talents.
The 20-year-old talent was deployed as a right wing-back in Chelsea’s recent Premier League clashes against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley.
Not only did Hudson-Odoi play well in both positions but he also provided an assist from his new role in the 2-0 victory over Burnley.
The young England international had never considered playing as a wing-back before, but admitted that after some prior instructions and video analysis from Tuchel and his coaching staff, he felt far more comfortable in the role and ended up enjoying it.
“It was something new that I hadn’t tried before,” Callum Hudson-Odoi told Stadium Astro.
“When he asked me to do it I was a bit surprised because I have never played in that position before but I took it in my stride and it worked perfectly.
“I thought as the games went on it worked perfectly and I was comfortable in that position. I knew what to do.
“He told me how to play before the game and he showed my clips beforehand, so it’s good to know that that’s how the role should be played and it worked perfectly for me.
“So it’s good that he’s trying something new and it’s something new for me. I really enjoy it.”
Tuchel has enjoyed a bright start to life in London, with three wins and a draw from his opening four Premier League games as Chelsea’s new manager.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain head coach has wasted little time adapting and changing the tactics he inherited from Frank Lampard, with Hudson-Odoi just one of a number of players that have seen their roles change under the new Chelsea manager.
