Jesse Lingard is settling into life at West Ham nicely, according to manager David Moyes, who previously took charge of him at Manchester United.

Lingard had failed to make an impression at Old Trafford this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He played just three matches in all competitions for Man Utd and was unsurprisingly offloaded on loan at the end of the January transfer window.

He made an explosive start to life at West Ham by scoring a double in their 3-1 away win against Aston Villa, though he was more subdued in a scoreless draw with Fulham last weekend. He was unable to play against his parent club in the FA Cup loss in midweek.

Nevertheless, Moyes is impressed with how the new addition is adapting to life away from Man Utd.

“I think Lingard has been settling in very well, especially to score two in his first game at Villa,” the manager said.

“We didn’t have a great team performance against Fulham which he was involved in. But he has had a little bit of rest and a chance to recover because he hasn’t had many minutes as far as starting games go so he has a little bit of room to get a week’s recovery between games.

“We’ll have Jesse back in and around the squad which will give us a boost.”

West Ham are outperforming expectations this season as they lie sixth in the Premier League ahead of the weekend’s card, which will see them host Sheffield United on Monday. With Lingard back in their ranks, the Hammers will hope to step up their challenge for an unlikely Champions League spot next term.
