Transfer news: Wolves tie down Jonny to new deal until 2025
Wolves have secured the services of Jonny until the summer of 2025, with the Premier League side announcing the wing-back has signed an extended contract at Molineux.
Under Nuno Espirito Santo, Jonny has emerged as a key man in Wolves’ successful aspirations to become an established side in the top flight since their promotion from the Championship in 2018.
Over the course of the 2018/19 season and into 2019/20, he would start 65 of Wolves’ 76 Premier League games.
His 2020/21 campaign, however, has been ruined by a cruciate ligament injury that his seen him start just one game all season.
That appearance took place at the weekend in a 0-0 draw versus Leicester, and only a few days after his successful comeback, he has earned a new deal.
Jonny posted a video on Twitter thanking the fans for their messages while he was out injured, saying:
“I am very happy to give everything back to the pack!
“Thank you very much. The hard work continues. And now I am pleased to announce that it will continue for longer.
“I want to thank all of you, because you are part of this. I am very happy here, I feel at home. Thank you especially for all the messages you sent me during my injury.
“I hope we will see each other soon. We are a pack!”
Without the likes of Jonny and another key player in Raul Jimenez, who is continuing his recovery from a fractures skull, Wolves have struggled this season and are currently down in 14th in the Premier League.
Out of their 23 fixtures played so far they have won just seven, and prior to the victory against Arsenal last weekend they went eight games without claiming all three points.
In the January transfer window, they were able to bring in Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose to the club on loan with the option to buy to cover for the injured Jimenez.
