Cavani tipped to leave Man Utd by former Old Trafford star

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince believes Edinson Cavani will be thinking about leaving this summer, amid rumours linking him with a move to Boca Juniors.

The Uruguayan has performed well for the Red Devils since his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, scoring seven goals in 13 starts in all competitions, while his mentorship towards the younger players in the squad has also been praised.

It hasn’t been plain sailing, though, as he was previously banned for a couple of matches and fined £100,000 for a social media post in Spanish which is allegedly racist when taken out of context.

This week, his father Luis Cavani claimed that the 34-year-old wanted to leave the Premier League this summer and return to a team in South America to be nearer to his family.

Cavani would subsequently sedt a Tweet out saying he was proud to wear the kit of Man Utd.

Will Cavani leave Man Utd?

Ince believes that a combination of not starting many games, the outrage over his social media post, and the fact that Man Utd performed so well without him in one of their best performances of the season in the win against Manchester City may lead to Cavani leaving.

“Cavani has come in and he’s been a revelation,” the former Man Utd midfielder told talkSPORT.

“I know we talk about Fernandes coming in and being very, very good, but Cavani, he’s a natural goalscorer.

“As well as [Anthony] Martial and [Marcus] Rashford can do up front, when you talk about natural goalscorers, Cavani has showed that when he plays, the runs he makes, he knows where the space is and knows how to score.

“Whether he decides to stay or not I don’t know. When you look at the team against Manchester City and how they played he might be thinking ‘well, is this the way they’re going to go next year, am I going to get as many games? I’m not getting any younger’. 

“I can see him going.

“All this social media stuff has not gone down well, it’s a little bit pathetic to be fair, and I can see why Cavani is a little upset about it.

“All the angles look like he will go, but hopefully he’ll leave with a few more goals in the back of the net for United.”

Cavani’s father confirmed that there had been contact between the player and Boca Juniors about a potential transfer this summer.
