Celtic legend on why Eddie Howe would be a perfect fit for the Hoops
Frank McAvennie insists Eddie Howe would be the perfect candidate for the Celtic manager’s job as his brand of football matches that of the Glasgow giants.
Celtic are currently on the lookout for a new boss after Neil Lennon eventually left the club following a disastrous season which as seen the Hoops surrender their title to arch rivals Rangers.
They were going for a historic tenth title in a row, a feat never achieved before, but have limply allowed themselves to be usurped by Steven Gerrard’s side, who have claimed the Scottish Premiership earlier than anyone in the history of the competition.
With a major rebuilding job required at Celtic Park, the new manager will have his work cut out.
But, McAvennie thinks Howe has an advantage ahead of some of the other candidates for the role as his attacking style is what Celtic are looking for in a manager.
“I would be delighted if Eddie Howe came in,” the former Celtic striker told Football Insider.
“He plays the right brand of football and that is very important. We are renowned for our style of football. When I was at Celtic big Billy McNeill told me it is not just about winning, it is about the way that you win. There has to be a bit of cavalier, a bit of style to it.
“I think Eddie Howe would bring that. The brand of football he brought to Bournemouth was a joy to watch.”
Who will be the next Celtic manager?
Various names have been mentioned as potential candidates for the hot seat at Celtic Park, including Howe, Frank Lampard, Steve Clarke, Roberto Martinez, Enzo Maresca, and Domenec Torrent.
Howe is allegedly interested in taking over, but is also on the lookout for any jobs in the English Premier League that may come up.
