No more excuses for me at Chelsea, declares Kai Havertz
Kai Havertz says he is ready to show what he can do in the Premier League and insists he has no excuses after enduring a difficult first season in England.
All eyes were on the Germany international after his £75million move to Stamford Bridge from Bayer Leverkusen, but he has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League, having scored just once in 21 games this season.
Havertz suffered from coronavirus, but says that is now behind him and, after his boss Thomas Tuchel claimed he was beginning to take more responsibility in games, the player is desperate to get down to work.
“The coronavirus is now over (for me) and I feel good,” Havertz told Chelsea’s website. “I had a little injury in the past few weeks but it’s now time to play good.
“It has not been easy for me but there are no excuses.
“I just have to keep on working and hopefully there will be a big turnaround soon.”
Chelsea are still fighting for the top four in the Premier League after an impressive turnaround since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard at the end of January.
Attention swiftly turns to the Champions League last 16 tie second leg against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday before and FA Cup sixth round tie against Sheffield United this weekend.
