Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool if he receives a more enticing offer elsewhere, according to his former coach Hamdi Nooh.

The Egyptian has emerged as one of the most important players in Liverpool’s recent history since his move from Roma in the summer of 2017, helping them to the Champions League in 2019 as well as their first ever Premier League title in the 2019/20 campaign.

Though he is still banging in the goals – he has 27 in all competitions this season – he has cut a frustrated figure at times as the Reds as a whole have struggled, particularly in the defence of their Premier League crown.

They are currently down in seventh and face a fight to just qualify for the Champions League never mind put up a title defence, while on Tuesday of this week they were comfortably defeated 3-1 by Real Madrid in the last eight of the Champions League.

Liverpool have the second leg to try and turn that tie around, but if they fail to do so another route into the Champions League vanishes.

Throughout the campaign, Salah has risked the ire of the Anfield faithful as he previously referred to Real Madrid and Barcelona as “top clubs” while refusing to rule out a move to La Liga in the future.

Salah to leave Liverpool?

Now, his former coach has added fuel to the fire, saying Salah could leave if he believes his time at Liverpool has come to an end.

“Yes, he may think about leaving Liverpool if a better offer comes in, but that’s just my own opinion. He’s unique and his family means everything to him,” former El-Mokawloon coach Nooh told AS.

“I can’t guess at that,” he responded when asked if Salah would prefer Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“I enjoy watching Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich but my heart is always wherever Salah is.

“In any case, I’ll be very happy if he goes to a Spanish club. Spanish football is my favourite.”

Even if Salah has aspirations of joining Barcelona or Real Madrid, there are no indications yet that he will emerge as a transfer target for the Clasico pair.

Barcelona’s finances currently aren’t strong, and if they do get an injection of funds they are likely to pursue Erling Haaland, while Real Madrid have been saving money to sign either Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.
