Manchester United legend Gary Neville has pinpointed the three signings the club must make the win the Premier League title next season.

United finished second, 12 points adrift of Manchester City, who won a third title in four years under Pep Guardiola. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could still end his wait for silverware with victory in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Neville, who played for the club between 1992 and 2011, says they need to spend big if they are to close the gap on their neighbours domestically.

In a Twitter Q and A on Tuesday night, he answered a fan who asked him what was needed to improve the team by saying Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane would lead the club to a first Premier League trophy in nine years.

Are the trio realistic targets?

Having failed to lure Sancho to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund last summer, it is believed the club will go back in for the England winger again.

Kane’s future is a hot topic right now. He is believed to want to leave Tottenham and both Man City and Man Utd are among the front runners in the race for his signature.

But this matter is complicated somewhat by the announcement that popular striker Edinson Cavani has just signed a new one-year contract extension at Old Trafford.

He had been the subject of much speculation beforehand, with a suggestion that could join Boca Juniors as he wanted to return to South America.

As for Varane, the Real Madrid defender’s long-term future has been in doubt for some time.

The Frenchman’s contract expires next summer and as of yet, there are no signs of a renewal.  United could sense an opportunity to strike for one of Neville’s top recommended targets, and the player has been less than committal in recent interviews.

“My future is clear. I am focused on the end of this season,” Varane told reporters earlier this year. “We are in a very intense and key moment.

Asked if he would like to stay in the Spanish capital beyond 2022, he added: “It is normal that my focus is on the end of the season.”
