Kane transfer stance becomes clearer as Man Utd talk intensifies

There has been huge debate over what Harry Kane will choose to do this summer as his Tottenham future comes under scrutiny with rumours of a move to Manchester United intensifying.

Kane is unlikely to fully reveal his hand until the end of the season, but the picture has become a bit clearer this weekend.

Multiple reports, including from The Sun, have revealed Kane will ask Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to consider any offers that may come in for him amid strong interest from Man Utd.

However, he will reportedly stop short of handing in an official transfer request to force through a move.

That mixed stance would make sense, with Kane torn over his next move.

He is yet to win a major trophy and turns 28 this summer.

But he also loves Tottenham having come through the youth system and is adored by the club’s supporters, with the chance to smash the Spurs and Premier League scoring records if he were to stay.

Kane admitted last month Spurs were not winning the trophies he wants.

And earlier this year Kane said he would consider his future after Euro 2020 this summer.

A 3-1 defeat at Leeds United on Saturday means a Champions League place now looks beyond Spurs, denting their hopes of keeping their talisman.

How much would Kane cost Man Utd?

Man Utd are reportedly plotting a £90 million transfer offer for Kane.

But there are significant doubts over whether even that huge figure would be enough to tempt Spurs to sell.

Levy has previously valued Kane at £175m prior to the coronavirus crisis.

Even if those demands have since gone down in light of the new reality, there likely remains a big gap in valuations.

Levy is said to believe he could get a better fee for the England captain next summer, when clubs have had more time to rebuild their finances and emerge from the pandemic, even though Kane would be a year older by then.

For Man Utd, Edinson Cavani is the current top choice at the number nine position and the club are currently attempting to persuade him to stay.

Mason Greenwood is a future prospect at the position and is already playing regularly in wider areas.

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also likely to be in the market for a centre-back and a right winger in the summer, with even clubs like United needing to be very cautious with their spending coming out of the pandemic.

Levy had previously indicated he would be reluctant to sell Kane to another Premier League club.

But there are unlikely to be many teams outside of the Premier League with the ability to come close to his demands, making Man Utd frontrunners.

Kane is under contract with Tottenham until 2024, which is a factor in Spurs’ favour.

Tottenham face a huge summer with the Kane situation needing to be resolved and a new manager to be appointed after sacking Jose Mourinho.
