Quiet night for Harry Kane amid transfer speculation
Harry Kane endured an evening to forget on what could be his final home appearance for Tottenham Hotspur.
The striker informed Spurs chiefs this week that he wants to bring a 17-year stay in north London to a close this summer in order to pursue major honours.
A number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United, have reportedly already registered an interest in signing Kane.
And, while it is understood that the player would prefer to stay in England, a player with 165 league goals in 241 games to his name is also likely to attract interest from the continent’s biggest clubs.
If he is to leave this summer, however, Kane won’t look back too fondly on his final appearance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Despite the boost of a welcome return for home fans, Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa that has dented their hopes of European football next term.
Kane, meanwhile, failed to enhance his chances of winning the Premier League Golden Boot for the third time.
After missing out on a goal, the 27-year-old remains tied with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on 22.
He took just two shots across the 90 minutes, just one of which found the target, despite touching the ball on 35 occasions.
Two key passes also failed to provide him with an assist to mark what could be his penultimate appearance for the club he joined as an 11-year-old.
It is unlikely, however, that this performance will put off a long list of suitors going into the summer window.
