‘Tottenham crave successful team’ – Spurs chairman speaks out amid Kane to Man Utd links
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has affirmed that on-the-pitch success is the most important objective for the club’s hierarchy, amid speculation that star player Harry Kane could leave the club.
Tottenham have endured a turbulent few years since defeat in the 2018 Champions League final to Liverpool and have since sacked fan-favourite boss Mauricio Pochettino and recently Jose Mourinho.

But it was the sacking of ‘The Special One’ that raised eyebrows among Spurs fans as, while things weren’t going to plan in the league, Levy chose to sack him just a week before the Carabao Cup final versus Manchester City.
This called the chairman’s integrity into question because it seemed he wanted to dispose of Mourinho in case of winning the cup and then having to keep him on board despite a difference in values. Whereas, the majority of Spurs fan are, at this point, more interested in winning a first piece of silverware since 2008 than any ulterior motive such as style of play or bringing through the youth.
Yet, Levy denies that any decision he makes is for separate reasons to the club’s success. ‘
‘We are absolutely clear that central to our ambitions is a successful team – it is what we all crave,” he said in a message published on the club’s official website.
”We have come close over the last seasons and everyone’s focus is on a return to regular Champions League participation and competing for honours.
”I have said it many times and I will say it again – everything we do is in the long-term interests of the club. I have always been and will continue to be ambitious for our club and its fans.”
Spurs next steps
Spurs face a difficult summer ahead with the rumoured discontent of talisman Harry Kane and also the search for a new manager.
Kane has registered 22 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League alone and would represent a huge loss to the club if he were to leave, especially to a domestic rival. Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are keen on acquiring the England international.
As for the managerial situation, interim boss Ryan Mason appears out of the running for the job despite a decent spell in charge to this date. Lazio head coach Simone Inzaghi is current bookies’ favourite with Fulham’s Scott Parker also linked as Levy finds the right man to potentially lead a post-Kane rebuild.
”We shall focus on the recruitment of a new head coach,” Levy added. ”We are acutely aware of the need to select someone whose values reflect those of our great club and return to playing football with the style for which we are known – free-flowing, attacking and entertaining – whilst continuing to embrace our desire to see young players flourish from our academy alongside experienced talent.”
