Chelsea may have won the Champions League and look in good shape to challenge for the Premier League title next season but that doesn't mean they’ll shy away from making big signings this summer.

The Stamford Bridge side have been heavily linked with moves for star players like Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman but perhaps the most important signing could come in defence.

Another player that has been linked with a move to London since January is Bayern central defender Niklas Sule.

The 25-year-old defender has a big fan in Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who knows all about Sule’s talents from his time in the Bundesliga.

And it seems as though the London club may have an opportunity to swoop in and sign the defensive talent this summer.

Could Bayern sell Sule to Chelsea this summer?

While Sule remains a key player for Bayern after recovering from a serious injury last season, reports in Germany are now suggesting that the player could be sold if certain factors don’t change soon enough.

The German internationa’s current contract with Bayern is set to expire in 2022, which means Sule will be able to speak to other clubs in January and could leave for free in 12 months time.

According to a report in TZ, Bayern are acutely aware of this scenario and have decided to sell the player if he’s unwilling to extend his current deal in Munich.

However, before Chelsea fans jump for joy, it’s worth bearing in mind how likely it is that Sule will extend his deal at the club.

While the central defender didn’t enjoy a huge amount of game time under Hansi Flick last season, new manager Julian Nagelsmann knows all about Sule’s talents from their time together at Hoffenheim.

As well as that, Nagelsmann tends to prefer a back three which means Bayern will have a greater need for Sule’s skills next season. Which may convince the player to extend his stay in Germany rather than consider his options.
