Top 10 most expensive transfers of the summer so far
Jadon Sancho is the most expensive transfer of the 2021 summer window following his blockbuster move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United.
Man Utd paid a fee of €85 million for the England winger in a deal that had been in the works for over a year.
Sancho signed a contract until 2026 at Old Trafford, with the option for a further year.
The second highest transfer fee this summer so far was for Morocco wing-back Achraf Hakimi, who swapped Inter for PSG.
The Parisians agreed to pay the Nerazzurri a fee that will eventually reach around €70m.
Hakimi signed a five-year contract at the Parc des Princes and the deal earned Inter a €30m profit on what they paid for the ex-Real Madrid star only a year ago.
The third most expensive transfer of the summer thus far was Bayern Munich’s purchase of Dayot Upamecano.
Bayern agreed to pay off the clause in the France defender’s Leipzig contract which amassed to €42.5m.
Upamecano was not the only Leipzig centre back to go for big money this summer as the fourth most expensive signing as his former defensive partner Ibrahima Konate.
Liverpool activated the €40m clause in Konate’s Leipzig contract to strengthen a position that was problematic last campaign following the serious injury to star man Virgil van Dijk.
Staying in the Premier League, the fifth most expensive transfer deal of the summer was Emiliano Buendia’s move from Norwich City to Aston Villa.
Villa beat off competition from Arsenal to sign the Argentine for €36m in what could be an eventual replacement for Jack Grealish, who is wanted by Man City.
Next up, in sixth place is Rodrigo de Paul, who was arguably the best midfielder in Serie A last season.
Atletico Madrid paid Udinese €35m for the central midfielder, who also starred during Argentina’s 2021 Copa America triumph.
In seventh we have Fikayo Tomori who, after an excellent six-month loan spell at Milan, made his transfer permanent this summer for €29m.
In eighth position is Leicester City’s biggest signing of the summer; Patson Daka.
Leicester beat Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal to the €27m signature of the Red Bull Salzburg striker, who has been compared to Samuel Eto’o.
In ninth position we have Brazilian midfielder Gerson, who swapped Flamengo for Marseille for €25m.
And, finally, in tenth we have another Chelsea defender in Marc Guehi who departed Stamford Bridge for Crystal Palace for €24m.
