How Salah's wage compares to the Premier League's other leading forwards
Liverpool have spent the summer locking down a number of key players to long-term contract extensions.
So far, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson have put pen to paper, with Jordan Henderson expected to follow soon.
Mohamed Salah's contract runs out in the summer of 2023 and the Reds are naturally keen to keep him at the club beyond that, as even in a year from now they could be forced to sell so that they actually receive a transfer fee.
The Egyptian currently earns £200,000 per week, with only Van Dijk earning more following his latest extension, but he reportedly wants to become the highest paid player in the club's history.
That would take him beyond the £220k per week that the Dutchman earns.
Salah has flirted with a move to Spain with Barcelona or Real Madrid in the past, but his desire remains to continue with Liverpool as long as his demands as met.
Even if his new wages exceed that of Van Dijk's, he wouldn't be close to a couple of his Premier League colleagues, however.
The highest-earning forwards in the Premier League
This week, Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a transfer away from the club, potentially in a swap deal with Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho.
That move is unlikely, though, as Barca need to drastically reduce their wage bill, not add to it, and Aubameyang remains the highest-paid forward in the Premier League, earning a reported £350k per week.
Manchester City are allegedly looking to offer Raheem Sterling a new contract even though he didn't enjoy his most productive season this campaign. He currently earns £300k per week so any lucrative new offer could see him move closer to Aubameyang in the top spot.
Player | Club | Weekly Wage |
---|---|---|
1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | Arsenal | £350k |
2. Raheem Sterling | Man City | £300k |
3. Anthony Martial | Man Utd | £250k |
4. Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea | £210k |
=4. Edinson Cavani | Man Utd | £210k |
=5. Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | £200k |
=5. Marcus Rashford | Man Utd | £200k |
=5. Harry Kane | Tottenham | £200k |
There is a surprising name in third place as Manchester United's Anthony Martial is the third-highest paid forward in the league.
He has struggled with form and injury issues in the past, while he is arguably no longer first choice at Old Trafford, yet takes home £250k per week.
The newest entry on the list is Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku, who recently completed a club record £96 million transfer from Inter.
Some inaccuare reports suggested he could be taking home upwards of £325k per week at Stamford Bridge, but that is with heavy incentives.
His basic weekly pay is around £210k.
Edinson Cavani takes the same at Man Utd.
As fo the remaining three spots on the list, they are all on £200k per week, with Salah at Liverpool, Marcus Rashford at Man Utd and Harry Kane at Tottenham.
Should Kane complete a transfer to Man City, though, expect him to skyrocket up the list, potentially matching or even exceeding Aubameyang.
