Amad Diallo and Jesse Lingard could be set to stay at Manchester United this season, despite widespread speculation both could depart this summer.

Amad impressed when given the chance in the first team towards the end of 2020/21, having joined the club in January from Atalanta. Nevertheless, it has been anticipated that he would go out on loan to gain first-team experience.

Meanwhile, Lingard excelled on loan at West Ham in the second half of last term, scoring more goals than he had ever previously managed in a whole Premier League campaign. It was sufficient to earn him an England recall, but with Man Utd stacked offensively, ‘J-Lingz’ has been tipped for a summer switch.

“With Amad, I have to say he's doing really, really well in training, he's come back a little later after the Olympics and now he's looking really good. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays,” Solskjaer explained to the media. “It has to be the right loan, the club, way of playing etc.”

Amad had previously been most closely linked to Sheffield United.

Lingard’s future seems equally uncertain at this juncture, though Solskjaer has suggested that it could be at Old Trafford, despite links with West Ham throughout the summer.

“I think Jesse's first priority is to get into our team, whenever your employer is Man Utd that's your first priority, it always is. We can have great moments together,” Solskjaer said.

“As a manager, with the players and a squad I've got now, it's difficult to say this weekend you're not playing. I've got to leave players out of the starting XI and squad. But they all have to remember they're going to play a part if we're going to be successful. Jesse has come back in good shape, he's got a big part to play.”

Solskjaer was speaking ahead of Man Utd's Premier League clash at Southampton on Sunday.
