The teenager exploded onto the scene in Scotland, playing a vital role as the Gers ended Celtic's hopes of a historic 10 successive titles last season.

Although he has found himself as second choice at Ibrox behind captain James Tavernier, he remains a player linked with major sides in the Premier League, with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool among those who wish to exploit his undoubted potential.

What position does Nathan Patterson play in?

Although sometimes asked to fill in at left-back due to his speed and confidence on the ball, Patterson is a classic right-back who enjoys marauding down the wing and firing crosses into the box if and when possible.

Like Andy Robertson at Liverpool, the young Rangers talent relies on his tremendous service of the ball and his speed and tenacity in trying to win it back whenever out of possession.

How good is Nathan Patterson?

Although Patterson is a newcomer to first-team football, he has impressed when given the opportunity and has already won Scotland caps.

At the Ibrox club, the young Scot has had to compete with club captain and one of Steven Gerrard’s most consistent performers in James Tavernier, but when offered game time Patterson has rarely disappointed.

Indeed, the player’s rare but impressive appearances last season proved convincing enough for Steve Clarke to call him up for the Scotland national team squad at Euro 2020, and while the side didn’t do spectacularly well at the competition, Patterson gave a very good impression of himself in a pre-tournament friendly and as a late substitute in the Croatia game.

As such, the talent is considered by many to be the long-term solution to Rangers and Scotland’s right-back problems and has shown remarkable speed, technical ability and defensive fortitude to suggest he’s ready to play at the very highest level.

What clubs are interested in Nathan Patterson?

Due to the player’s quick rise in Scottish football, Patterson has inevitably attracted interest from scouts at some of England’s biggest clubs.

To date, the two clubs that have shown the most amount of interest are Merseyside duo Everton and Liverpool.

However, according to the Sun, Everton have stolen a lead on their cross-city rivals and could be prepared to make a bid of £10 million for the right-back as soon as this January.

A recent report from the Guardian also suggested that Everton could make a move for the defender in January.

Additionally, Manchester United are reportedly interested in him to potentially bring competition to the right-back slot against Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
