Watford sack Xisco Munoz after Leeds defeat
Watford may be above the relegation zone and in 14th position in the Premier League, but the club have taken the decision to fire head coach Xisco Munoz. After a 1-0 loss at Leeds United on Saturday, in which the Hornets could have lost by a larger margin, a statement was released on Sunday morning to announce the Spaniard’s dismissal.
WHAT IS THE PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE?
Xisco Munoz had only been in charge since last December, when he took over from Vladimir Ivic midway through the 2020/21 campaign. He helped steer Watford to promotion into the Premier League and leaves Vicarage Road with a record of 21 wins, four draws and 11 defeats from 36 official matches, with 49 goals scored and 29 conceded.
So far this campaign, Watford have taken seven points from their opening seven matches. Yet the club’s hierarchy were concerned by the nature of some of the recent poor results.

Watford’s statement on Xisco Munoz’s sacking
The Watford board released a statement as the news was communicated on Sunday morning. "The Board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving,” is started. “The Hornets will always be grateful to Xisco for the part he played in securing last season's promotion and wish him well for his future career in football. No further club comment will be available until the imminent announcement of a new head coach."
