Manchester United continue to pick through the pieces of Sunday's 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool with regime change on the horizon.

That brings with it rumours and gossip with a vast array of players continually linked with the club. None more so than West Ham and England star Declan Rice.

The player was again mentioned in terms of United when David Moyes spoke about him on Sunday. He said: "There was a bargain to be got with Declan at £100 million. That bargain has now gone."

It is gone because Rice has been instrumental in West Ham's impressive start to the season that sees the Hammers in fourth spot in the Premier League and with a 100% record in the Europa League after three games.

And United have pinpointed Rice as the man to solve their midfield problems with the likes of Paul Pogba looking ever closer to the exit door.

What about Youri Tielemans?

But what if the answer to United's struggles lie in Leicester as opposed to London?

Youri Tielemans has fully established himself at the heart of the Leicester City midfield and played a big part in the recent dismantling of United, scoring in the 4-2 Leicester victory.

And he followed that performance with another stellar outing last time out against Brentford, again getting on the score sheet with a 25-yard screamer.

The Belgian international has long been linked with a move to a bigger club with Liverpool and Bayern Munich prepared to battle it out for his signature.

At 24 years old, Tielemans has yet to hit his peak despite already emerging as one of the Premier Leagues brightest talents.

Tielemans over Rice?

With Moyes hinting that Rice would now cost upwards of £100m, would it make sense now for United to turn their attention to Tielemens?

It's likely he would cost far less than Rice and definitely well short of £100m.

And his Leicester contract is winding down with it due to expire in 2023. That means unless there is a new contract agreed soon, summer 2022 will be the main transfer window that Leicester may look for a fee.

It could be a shrewd piece of business by whoever is in charge of United come January and a way to show fans that United can still compete with the likes of Liverpool in the transfer market.
