Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has had an underwhelming start to life at Anfield.

The Spaniard moved to the club in 2020 for €22 million following a successful spell at German giants Bayern Munich.

But injuries have hampered Thiago's form and game time, and he has featured just 38 times for manager Jurgen Klopp in nearly a season and a half.

Barcelona rumours

That has led to rumours of a return to former club Barcelona as they look to rebuild to former glories under new head coach Xavi.

The Blaugrana have had a torrid season thus far both on and off the pitch.

Steeped in financial difficulty, the club lost star player Lionel Messi in the summer and sit seventh in La Liga, 10 points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Barca are also in danger of exiting the Champions League early, needing to go to Munich and win to guarantee a place in the last 16.

What has Thiago said about going back to Barca?

And now Thiago has finally addressed those rumours on a return to the club he left in 2013.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's Champions League match against Porto, he said: "I play football. I don't worry about rumours.

"I'm focused on my duty to my team, my contract and the new adventure I have here in the Premier League and trying to win all sorts of trophies."

Asked if he had any regrets about joining Liverpool, he said: "I made 100% the right decision."

Thiago's Liverpool struggles

It has sometimes looked like Jurgen Klopp struggles to find a place in his team for Thiago.

He was brought in for his precise passing and it was hoped he would be the perfect figure to lay on assists for the dynamic forward line that Klopp possesses.

But he has just one assist to go with his single goal for Liverpool, compared to 37 goals created during his 235 Bayern appearances.
