January's Most Wanted: Kulusevski to Arsenal or Spurs?
Dejan Kulusevski was regarded as one of Europe’s most admired wonderkids just 18 months ago when he signed for Juventus.
Since then, his stock has fallen somewhat but there is still big interest in him from the Premier League, particularly in north London.
So what is his transfer situation in January 2022?
What is Dejan Kulusevski’s transfer status?
Dejan Kulusevski is available for sale at Juventus at the right price.
The Bianconeri made a big investment in the Swedish winger in the summer of 2020, paying Atalanta over €40 million.
However, he has struggled badly to live up to the promise that he showed during a brilliant loan spell at Parma in the 2019-20 season – performances that earned him the Young Player of the Season award in Serie A.
Current Juventus coach Max Allegri does not consider Kulusevski a part of his future plans, something that was revealed recently by the Swedish former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson.
“I was told that Allegri thinks Kulusevski can’t read the game good enough. The coach sees something that makes him not trust him 100%,” Eriksson told The Italian Football Podcast.
“But with the talent Kulusevski has, he can do things on his own. So, it is very strange that he doesn’t start every game. If this goes on all season, and that he’s sitting on the bench, then I think he should leave.”
It is believed that Juventus would accept a bid in the region of €30-35m in order to ensure they don’t suffer a capital loss on the player.
When does Dejan Kulusevski’s contract expire?
Kulusevski’s contract with Juventus expires on June 30, 2025.
What clubs are interested in Dejan Kulusevski?
There are two main clubs interested in signing Kulusevski, Tottenham and Arsenal.
It is no secret that both clubs are in the market to sign at least one forward in January. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted publicly that the Gunners will look to buy a new attacker, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer listed and exiled, and Alexandre Lacazette set to leave on a Bosman in June.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are heavily reliant on Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son in attack and coach Antonio Conte had demanded more depth.
Spurs transfer chief Fabio Paratici was the man who signed Kulusevski for Juventus in 2020 while he was sporting director in Turin. He remains an admirer of the Swede.
It is possible, particularly in the case of Tottenham, that Kulusevski could move to London in a part-exchange offer. Spurs are reported to have offered the likes of Tanguy N’Dombele, Japhet Tanganga and Giovani Lo Celso in exchange for Kulusevski. Arsenal could offer Aubameyang as Juventus are looking for a striker themselves.
Could Dejan Kulusevski leave in January?
Yes. As explained above, Juventus have put Kulusevski up for sale in January if the price is right.
The Bianconeri plan to sign a central midfielder and an attacker this month but they need to sell before they can buy due to their difficult financial situation.
Selling Kulusevski would help fund such deals.
Could Kulusevski leave in the summer?
Yes. If Juventus are unsuccessful in offloading Kulusevski in January then they will likely try again in the summer – unless the Swede can drastically improve his performances before then.
In 2021-22, he has scored only one goal in all competitions.
How old is Kulusevski?
Dejan Kulusevski was born on 25 April 2000. He is 21 years old.
