Chelsea’s hopes of signing Theo Hernandez are over
AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has confirmed that Theo Hernandez is set to sign a new contract at the club, ending Chelsea’s hopes of signing the left back.
The France international joined Milan from Real Madrid for €22m in 2019 and his value has more than tripled since then.
Theo has developed into the best left back in Serie A and one of the most exciting young full-backs in Europe.
His performances have led to a number of Europe’s top clubs being linked with making a big-money transfer bid.
PSG sporting director Leonardo is a well-known admirer and made an enquiry this past summer, while Manchester City are also said to be interested.
Chelsea wanted Theo
But it is Chelsea who had been tipped to make an official bid for the 24-year-old this month
The Blues only have Marcos Alonso available at left wing-back as Emerson is on loan at Lyon and Ben Chilwell is out with a long-term injury.

But Chelsea’s hopes of signing him are now over this month after Maldini confirmed Theo is set to extend his contract that expires in June 2024.
“As for Theo Hernandez, we are right down to the details of a contract extension, so we practically have an agreement in place.”
Theo has four goals and six assists in all competitions this season from 24 games for Milan.
He also played a key role in France winning the UEFA Nations League, scoring the winner in the semi-final win over Belgium.
