Erling Haaland has given a swipe towards Borussia Dortmund amid constant speculation that he could depart the Bundesliga club in the summer.

Haaland has a contract with the club that has a minimum fee release clause inserted in it that becomes active at the end of the season. It will allow him to depart for a fee of around €75 million – well below his present market value.

Recent reports have suggested that the Norway international will be offered lucrative terms from Dortmund in order to sign a new deal, which is designed to ensure that they get what they might consider a fair price for him. It could also potentially keep him at the club for another season.

Presently, all of Europe’s biggest clubs are linked with a move for him, from Manchester United to Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, who are favourites to land him.

Haaland, though, is unhappy about the pressure he is being put under by Dortmund at present to make a decision with regards his future and says he just wants to focus on his football right now.

Speaking after scoring twice in an emphatic 5-1 win over Freiburg in the Bundesliga, he told Viaplay Fotball: “Borussia Dortmund are now pushing me to make a decision about things… but I just want to play football. That probably means that I will soon have to get things started. I never spoke until now to respect the club.”

Dortmund issue quick response

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was quick to respond to the bombshell interview.

He told Ruhr Nachrichten on Haaland: "He is a spontaneous person. He's allowed to do that. There is no problem with Erling. But he must also have some understanding for our situation. We can't wait until the end of May."

What this means for Haaland

It is clear that Haaland has been left frustrated by the attitude of Dortmund, which can only increase his chances of departing the club.

His claimed that he will “soon have to get things started” will inevitably ramp up speculation over where he could sign next season. It will also force those prospective clubs who want to sign him to get their proposals in order.

Haaland, then, is on the move and the Dortmund striker is more eligible than ever for proposals.
