What surprise transfer target Bowen could bring to Liverpool
Liverpool have again been linked with Jarrod Bowen this week as the Reds look towards their summer recruitment.
At the moment, Jurgen Klopp has Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino in his attacking ranks.
During the summer, Livepool were reportedly interested in Bowen but ultimately decided to remain relatively frugal in the transfer market as they only signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
Diaz was then signed from Porto in the January transfer window.
FOOTBALLTRANSFERS' MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD
Klopp remains keen on adding another wide option to his frontline, however, in order to lighten the workload on Salah in particular on the right-hand side.
That is why a number of right wingers have been identified by the club as possible signings, including Bowen.
Bowen has been with West Ham since January of 2020 when he completed a £25m transfer from Hull City.
Bowen usually features on the right-hand side as a traditional winger of sorts and Liverpool don't have many of those in the current squad due to Klopp's preference of playing in a 4-3-3 with Salah, Mane and Firmino/Jota/Diaz up top as a striker and two inside forwards.
The Reds want Bowen as he would undoubtedly provide them another dimension in attack, particularly via his crossing abilities as the club currently relies heavily on its full-backs for deliveries into the area at the moment.
Bowen's development at West Ham
In his first full season with West Ham in 2020/21, Bowen scored eight goals and recorded six assists in all competitions.
The 25-year-old's development can be highlighted by his performances in this campaign, though, as he has already bettered that tally despite it only being February.
In the Premier League in 2021/22, he has eight goals and eight assists, while in all competitions he has 21 overall goal contributions.
Many believe he has earned a call up to the England national side due to his performances this campaign.
He has more goal contributions in all competitions than Harry Kane, James Maddison, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Raheem Sterling, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Conor Gallagher, James Ward-Prowse, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
