‘They said he was finished at Arsenal’ - Aubameyang hailed on Twitter after Barca brilliance
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was hailed on social media after he produced a virtuoso performance in Barcelona’s thrashing of Valencia on Sunday.
Aubameyang joined Barcelona on a free transfer in January from Arsenal, having been frozen out of the squad at the Emirates for disciplinary reasons.
Many questioned the signing of the 32-year-old by the Blaugrana, especially after he failed to hit the back of the net in his first three appearances for his new club.
However, he broke his duck in style on Sunday during the 4-1 at Valencia.
Aubameyang broke the deadlock after 23 minutes with a lethal finish. He ran onto the end of Jordi Alba’s brilliant long pass before bending the ball into the top of the net at Giorgi Mamardashvili’s near post.
Aubameyang then scored his second goal on 38 minutes as he darted to the back post to tap home Gavi’s accurate cross.
The Gabon international’s performance clearly impressed Barcelona fans, as well as all those watching from afar.
Many users appeared to imply that it was Arsenal who were at fault for Aubameyang’s career falling apart in England.

Indeed, a number of Arsenal fans themselves expressed their unhappiness that Aubameyang was allowed to leave.
So Aubameyang got as many goals today as Lacazette has from open play all season. Cheers for 6th place Arsenal 👍 https://t.co/w7y9Vudh5e

Other users made light of Aubameyang’s falling-out with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, and how the Spaniard may now regret that relationship ending.

Arsenal supporters were also teased when it appeared that Aubameyang had completed his hat-trick, although it seems that Barcelona’s fourth goal was credited to Pedri instead.

It was an impressive win for Barcelona, who strengthen their hold on fourth place and now look a good bet to finish in the Champions League places.
