Conor Gallagher continues to be one of the star of the Premier League season, having broken out at Crystal Palace following a summer loan move from Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has scored eight goals and created three more in just 22 Premier League outings this season, while his overall level of performance has helped establish him as a hero with the Palace fans already.

His latest goal arrived in a 4-1 win against Watford in midweek.

Inevitably, though, there are questions being asked as to whether the Selhurst Park side can hope to retain Gallagher’s services.

Certainly, manager Patrick Vieira is not wanting to give anything away.

“We honestly didn’t speak about it. We know that we will have him for the year and you never know what can happen,” he said.

“Conor Gallagher, I believe when you are looking at the way he is playing, is really happy in our football club.

“He knows how important he is for the team and the football club. He is enjoying his game. For a player like that, what is important is to keep playing week after week because that will allow him to improve. I think we give him the support he needs for him to be on the field and to express his talent.”

Where does Gallagher’s future lie?

Ironically, the strong standard of Gallagher’s performances for Palace could be making him ever more difficult for the club to sign.

Chelsea are keeping close tabs on his progress with an eye to recalling him for next season as they believe he is a player who could impact their first-team plans.

And even if the player seeks to move away from the Blues in search of guaranteed football, clubs with higher aspirations than Crystal Palace will see him as a serious option. Not only are such clubs likely to boast a better current status and Palace, but they will also be able to offer the Blues more money, too.

Vieira and his Crystal Palace side, then, would be well advised to enjoy the midfielder while they can because with each passing week he is looking more of a Chelsea-standard player.
