MLS side New England Revolution have confirmed that goalkeeper Matt Turner will join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper has been linked with a move to the London club for some time, but Arsenal have yet to confirm the deal until Turner has completed his medical and gained a work permit to move to England.

Despite that, the American club wasted little time by confirming that a deal worth a reported £7.5 million will go through at the end of the season.

In a statement on the club website, the MLS side: "The New England Revolution have agreed to terms for goalkeeper Matt Turner to join Arsenal of the English Premier League in a summer transfer for an undisclosed fee pending completion of a medical.

"Turner, the 2021 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, is expected to join Arsenal in late June 2022."

Similarly, while speaking to the Boston Herald, head coach Bruce Arena also confirmed that the deal had gone through.

“Obviously, everyone’s well aware of Matt Turner with the summer transfer to Arsenal,” said Arena. “There’s not much more comment on that. If it hasn’t been fully executed, it will be.”

What does this mean for Bernd Leno?

Such news will undoubtedly excite Arsenal fans, who will be relieved to see that their club has already begun making plans for the summer off-season.

However, Turner’s arrival will raise some eyebrows considering the fact that Arsenal already have two senior goalkeepers in Aaron Ramsdale and Bernd Leno.

Naturally, the American will be coming to London to step in as the club’s back-up keeper, with Leno widely expected to depart in the summer window.

Despite being a perfectly solid keeper for a number of years at Arsenal, the German talent was dropped for Ramsdale at the start of the season, who has gone from strength to strength for Arteta’s side.
