Manchester United have decided that they want Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak to replace Cristiano Ronaldo this summer – according to the Daily Mirror - should the Portuguese superstar leave the club.

Ronaldo returned to Man Utd last summer after 12 years away in a much-publicised transfer from Juventus.

The Portuguese superstar was aiming to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford and challenge for major trophies.

However, despite impressing individually with 14 goals in 24 games, the team is enduring a miserable season and are struggling to qualify for the Champions League.

WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?

They are also unlikely to win a trophy, as they are out of the title race and already out of both the League Cup and FA Cup.

This has led to widespread reports that Ronaldo will leave the club this summer, and this is something that is expected to materialise if Man Utd don’t finish in the top four.

According to the Daily Mirror, Man Utd have decided that the 22-year-old Isak is the ideal replacement for Ronaldo.

United are prepared to pay Isak’s €75 million release clause in order to bring him to Old Trafford.

Isak is regarded as one of the most promising young forwards in Europe and he scored 17 La Liga goals last season. This term he has struggled a touch, scoring only four times.

But Man Utd will face competition from a number of other Premier League teams. Arsenal are set to reignite their interest in the summer, having tried to sign Isak in January. Chelsea are also watching developments given the disappointing transfer of Romelu Lukaku.

When asked last week about his future, Isak refused to rule out a transfer in 2022.

What did Isak say about a transfer in 2022?

“You can never be sure of anything,” he said.

“As I always say, you never know what can happen in football but in the end I’m here, happy, and nothing more.”

Isak moved to Real Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and has also scored nine goals in 32 games for Sweden.
