Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United remains one of the biggest stories as we approach the end of the season and it seems as though a move to Real Madrid is the most likely outcome.

The France international has a contract at Old Trafford until the end of the season, upon which Pogba will be able to leave Man Utd for free.

However, while a move to Spain’s capital may seem like a done deal, another player has since popped up on Madrid’s radar that could delay or completely upend the proposed move.

According to reports in Italy, Madrid have become aware of Bernardo Silva’s availability this summer and could instead be tempted to make a move for the Manchester City playmaker.

But would Silva be a smarter signing for the Spanish giants than Pogba at the end of this season?

He’s better than Pogba

Perhaps the most obvious reason behind Madrid’s preference for Silva could be simply down to the fact that the Portugal international is a better player than Pogba.

During his spell at Man City, Silva has averaged 0.25 goals per 90 and 0.26 assists per 90, to make a total of 0.47 goals and assists per 90 for Pep Guardiola’s side.

In comparison, Pogba has averaged 0.2 goals and 0.26 assists per 90 and his average is slightly less at 0.47 total goals and assists per 90 for the Old Trafford club.

While there may be little in it, there’s no denying that Silva’s goals and assists have gone on to help his side win three league titles and an FA Cup, while Pogba remains a frustratingly inconsistent player for Man Utd.

Silva wants to play for Madrid

Another reason why Madrid may want to consider Silva over Pogba is that the Man City star does apparently dream of playing for the Spanish giants one day.

According to Calciomercato, Silva still harbours ambitions of returning to Spanish football and playing for Los Blancos before he gets too old.

Unlike Pogba, who has had his head turned by Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and even Barcelona, Silva would perhaps be a more sensible signing since he would be more committed to performing for the club of his dreams.
