Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has every confidence in the club’s management to tie Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane down to new contracts.

Both star forwards will be out of contract in 2023 and as such speculation has surrounded each of them for some time.

Many Liverpool fans are growing concerned over a lack of movement on the negotiating table, but Carragher made an interesting point and explained why he wasn’t too worried.

"18 months is a long time, it really is. I think Mo Salah is the one you want to get sorted first, possibly more so than the others (Mane and Roberto Firmino ),” said the former England international according to the Liverpool Echo.

“You look at him and Mane now in the Africa Cup of Nations final, two of the best attackers in world football, and the service they’ve given the club. Hopefully we can get a few more years out of them.

“But I always trust Liverpool as a club in terms of buying, selling and sorting contracts out. I think we’re the best at it so I’m not panicking at all. I’ve got great faith in FSG."

Will FSG convince Salah and Mane to stay?

When we look back at Liverpool’s record in the transfer window since FSG took over the club in 2010 there have certainly been some big departures. Perhaps Raheem Sterling’s move to Manchester City in 2015 is the most notable.

However, what did change things dramatically was the arrival of Jurgen Klopp and the club’s success under the German manager. And with it came a clear change in transfer policy.

Indeed, since Klopp took over the only real star player that has moved on from the club was Philippe Coutinho, who clearly demanded a move to Barcelona regardless of how much sense it made at the time.

Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum have also left under Klopp’s watch, but neither was ever considered a necessary first team player in Liverpool’s squad.

As such, over the course of the past six and a half years, Liverpool and FSG have done a remarkably good job of keeping the club’s stars in place. And that may end up proving to be a defining factor in how convincing they can be in their negotiations with Salah and Mane.
