Man Utd targeting €120m Abraham transfer is a huge blow for Chelsea

Roma striker Tammy Abraham has exploded in Serie A after making a €40m transfer from Chelsea last summer, making the England international a target for Manchester United and Manchester City.
Abraham has scored 23 times in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s club, with his record in Serie A totalling 15 goals in 29 matches.
It has been enough to pique the interest of clubs in England again, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Italian club are ready to put a price tag of €120 million (£100m) on his head.

Such a fee would place him in a unique club of 12 players who have been subject of transfers worth more than €100m. Indeed, it would make the Englishman the joint fifth most expensive player of all time alongside Antoine Griezmann.
Indeed, it may actually be in Roma’s interests to sell Abraham this summer.
Why Roma could sell Tammy
If the No.9 maintains the form that he has shown this season for another year, his value will only continue to climb.
Conversely, though, Roma cannot hope to profit on Abraham any further in 12 months. The reason for this is that Chelsea have a buy-back clause installed in his contract that will allow them to purchase him for €75m in 2023.
Although the Stamford Bridge side are going through a turbulent period currently because of the sale of the club, the climate will surely be better for them a year. Indeed, even if it is not for whatever reason, they could sign Abraham and instantly sell him on at his market value, cashing in a massive profit in the process.
For Roma, then, Abraham may have proved to be such a successful signing that he is a one-season wonder.
Who will sign Abraham?
Manchester City are an unlikely option, although Pep Guardiola will turn to the forward if a deal for Erling Haaland falls through. Manchester United, though, have a greater chance of competing a transfer for Abraham they search for reinforcements at centre forward.
Chelsea may also have been an option even at this inflated price had Roman Abramovich not been forced to give up the club.
It is also reported that there are other European clubs monitoring the forward’s progress, although there are few indications of which sides these may be.
Abraham, then, is unlikely to be heading back to Chelsea in the near future.
