Guendouzi sale to Marseille confirmed as Arsenal begin huge summer clear out
Marseille president Pablo Longoria has confirmed that the club will sign Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
The 22-year-old talent made the move to the Ligue 1 side last summer when he joined Marseille on loan.
As part of the deal, Marseille were obligated to make the move a permanent one if Guendouzi met certain conditions, which now seem to have passed.
According to Longoria (per RMC Sport), the Arsenal talent will sign a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 side after impressing this season with no less than 38 appearances to date.
However, the young midfielder is unlikely to be the only player to have his time at Arsenal brought to an abrupt halt this summer.
More Arsenal departures expected in the summer
While Arsenal may be in a good spot at the moment as they make a late push for a top four finish, there are undoubtedly a number of players in Mikel Arteta’s squad that will likely move on before the start of next season.
In defence, back-up goalkeeper Bernd Leno will almost certainly move on after being dislodged from his spot by new signing Aaron Ramsdale this season. Similarly, central defender Rob Holding and right-back Cedric Soares could also leave.
Arteta will also likely draw a line under Mohamed Elneny’s time in midfield, while Granit Xhaka is expected to make a second attempt to make the move to Italian side Roma, after a failed attempt last summer.
However, that probably won’t be the end of Arsenal’s summer sales. Expensive flop Nicolas Pepe is widely expected to push for a move after failing to impress Arteta and club captain Alexandre Lacazette could move on alongside Eddie Nketiah when both forwards see their contracts expire.
