Shaw open to talks but Man Utd have NOT offered defender a new deal yet
Manchester United have not begun formal discussions over a new contract for Luke Shaw, FootballTransfers understands.
Reports in England from earlier in the week had suggested that the England international was in line for a new deal which would extend his contract at the club beyond the current expiry date of June 2023.
The 26-year-old defender absolutely ‘loves the club’ and would be very open to the possibility of extending his current deal at Old Trafford.
However, despite having a clause to extend the player’s deal by a further year, Man Utd have yet to begin discussions with the player or his representative.
EXC: Understand Luke Shaw and Man United are yet to have formal discussions over a new deal but I’m told the defender absolutely ‘loves the club’ and is very open to talks. Shaw’s contract is up in 2023 and Man United have an option to extend this for a further year.#MUFC

Will Shaw get a new contract at Man Utd?
To the delight of Man Utd fans, Shaw made a notable return from an extensive run of bad injuries last season and was a pivotal member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team that finished second in the Premier League.
As such, the left-back’s performances for the Red Devils eventually earned him a spot and starting role in Gareth Southgate’s England team, which made it all the way to the finals of Euro 2020.
However, this current season has been a little trickier for the full-back, as Man Utd have struggled to match last year’s success on the pitch and as a result Shaw has regressed somewhat at the club.
“Personally the first half of the season for me was nowhere near where I can be, I know that,” he said in an interview a few weeks ago. “I picked up a lot of niggling injuries and haven’t been 100 per cent fit.
He added: “Now I feel great but the most important thing for me is about the team and what we need to do to improve and get back to fighting for better things than we are at the moment.”
When coupled with a spout of injuries that have, to date, ruled him out of eight league games this season, it’s perhaps easy to see why Man Utd have held off on committing to a long-term deal for Shaw at this stage in the season.
