How much would Man Utd and Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips cost?
Kalvin Phillips could be part of a transfer tug-of-war this summer, with a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing the England international from Leeds.
Manchester United, Liverpool, West Ham and Aston Villa have all been linked with a move for Phillips despite his ongoing injury issues this campaign.
He has managed just 12 appearances in the Premier League in 2021/22, but his talent is such that teams are prepared to take an expensive punt on him when the transfer window opens.
Phillips' future could largely be dependent on Leeds' fate in the league, as if they were to be relegated it seems a certainty that he would move on.
At the moment, the club are 16th in the Premier League seven points clear of the dropzone, though the clubs below have at least one game in hand.
Most recently, it is West Ham who have been linked with Phillips and reports suggested in January they could attempt to sign the player for around £50 million, though no bid was actually made.
With regards to Man Utd, it is unlikely Phillips would move to Old Trafford.
It is reported that Phillips is ready to reject a move to Manchester United because of his loyalty to Leeds, who have long had a fierce rivalry with the Old Trafford club.
For the supporters, it would represent a serious breach of trust if he were to switch to the Red Devils. Phillips does not want to harm his legacy at Elland Road and would, therefore, prefer a move to Liverpool or elsewhere.
Phillips loyalty to the club is not surprising. He joined the youth system at Leeds when 14 and graduated through the system to become a first team regular in the Championship and then Premier League.
Such were the strength of Phillips’ performances last term, he was called up to the England national team and went on to play a starring role as the Three Lions made a run to the final of Euro 2020.
How much would Phillips cost?
FootballInsider reports that West Ham are preparing a huge bid of £70m (€83m) for Phillips this summer to partner him with colleague Declan Rice in midfield.
FootballTransfers, meanwhile, values the midfielder at €16m, but that value is largely due to his lack of appearances this term.
