Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has hinted at discontent in the Old Trafford club’s squad when speaking after England’s 2-1 win over Switzerland.

Shaw struck the equaliser for the Three Lions in first-half stoppage-time after being teed up by Conor Gallagher. Harry Kane would later bag the winner from the penalty spot.

Speaking after the friendly international, Shaw, who also netted in the Euro 2020 final against Italy, hinted that all is not well at Man Utd, where there have been rumours of a dressing room split and performances have been sub-par, despite changing managers midway through the season.

“Of course it’s hard to enjoy when we’re losing and we’re not playing well at club level and we have to face that. This season it’s not been good enough at all so it’s hard to enjoy,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s always important to feel like you’re wanted and I think especially here with England I always feel that. I’m not saying I don’t at Man Utd, but here, the way things are, I feel wanted and I enjoy my football.”

Shaw has been a veteran of eight seasons at Manchester United, though rarely will he have experienced one quite as turbulent and controversial as the present campaign.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they started among the favourites to win the title but quickly fell off the pace and sacked the Norwegian.

Ralf Rangnick was appointed as an interim boss but has failed to get more out of the team and with nine games remaining they sit sixth in the standings, four points shy of fourth-placed Arsenal, who have played one game fewer.

Consequently, talk of major dressing room issues revolving around captain Harry Maguire and star forward Cristiano Ronaldo has never been far away, and Shaw’s comments seem to hint that something is deeply flawed in the club’s dressing room, even if he has not explicitly said so.
