Manchester United have turned their attentions to a transfer for Everton striker Richarlison this summer.

Goal reports that the forward, who will turn 25 in May, is high up the Red Devils’ shortlist for a summer move.

Richarlison has a wealth of Premier League experience, despite his relative youth, having first turned out for Watford in England’s top flight in the 2017/18 season. Since then, he has played four years with Everton, hitting double figures in his three previous campaigns.

But this term Richarlison has struggled along with his team. In 23 appearances, he has mustered only five goals.

Man Utd fans may question why their side is chasing a striker who has not been in form this term, but it may be a shrewd move in the long term.

After all, Richarlison has had a hectic period of football, playing virtually non-stop since the beginning of the 2020/21 season as he featured in both the Copa America and the Olympic Games last summer.

Little wonder, then, his form has depreciated.

Furthermore, Richarlison has the characteristics of a player that interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who will move upstairs into a key recruitment role in the summer, is likely to want. He works hard out of possession while still possessing the type of physical characteristics that can make him a successful No.9.

Man Utd lack offensive options

Regardless of whether Cristiano Ronaldo stays or goes from Manchester United in the summer, they will need an additional centre-forward.

Edinson Cavani will leave the club at the end of his contract while Mason Greenwood has off-field issues that could mean he never plays for the club again.

Given that Man Utd already lack offensive options, Richarlison would be a logical addition to their squad.

Indeed, it is likely that the Red Devils will look to recruit in addition to the Everton striker.
