Pogba to Juventus: Why Dybala is key in Man Utd star's future
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba continues to be linked with a summer transfer to Juventus – but Paulo Dybala is set to have a huge influence on any potential move.
Pogba is out of contract with Man Utd at the end of the season and so far little headway appears to have been made in tying the World Cup winner down to a fresh deal.
Meanwhile, Dybala is in a similar position at Juventus. His deal is up at the end of June but contract talks are scheduled with Juve later this week.
Dybala had previously seemed set to commit himself in the long term to the Turin giants only for them to cut their offer in the wake of signing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina in January. It was a move that angered the Argentine, whose future has been thrown into doubt as a result.
Dybala out, Pogba in?
Tuttosport reports that the result of Thursday’s talks could have a profound impact on the summer transfer window for Juventus.
The Turin paper states that while Nicolo Zaniolo remains a target for Juve regardless, Pogba’s future hinges on the deal.
Dybala and Pogba have been good friends since they played together at the club, but ironically the departure of ‘La Joya’ could hasten the return of the Man Utd star as it would free up around €7 million per year in terms of the wage budget.
It is stressed, however, that it will be complicated for Juventus to put together a financial package that might attract Pogba. Presently, he is on the equivalent of €13m per year at Old Trafford – around twice what Dybala earns.
While there is no guarantee that Pogba will join should Dybala leaves Juventus, there is simply no chance of a deal being brokered if the Argentine stays put.
