Real Madrid star Eden Hazard is expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer, with reports in recent days linking him with a potential transfer to Arsenal.

Hazard’s greatest period in his career came when he was in London with Chelsea, and that association with the Blues is one of the reasons why this is a deal that may not go ahead.

The Belgium international winger, however, has previously spoken of his admiration for Arsenal, suggesting that he might be open to a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Indeed, as a youngster growing up, he was especially taken by the French influence at the Gunners.

“When I was little, the team I watched the most was the French national team. For me, the players I looked up to were Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry,” he explained to On The Front Foot Magazine.

“It's difficult for me to admit because of my relationship with Chelsea, but I really liked the Arsenal team at the time. They had players like Robert Pires, [Sylvain] Wiltord, and [Patrick] Vieira, so it was mainly French players that I followed growing up.”

Will Hazard make Arsenal transfer?

Hazard appears an unlikely candidate to move to the Emirates given that it is in the centre-forward position where Arsenal are in most need of reinforcements. Equally, they are likely to prioritise their midfield before they look to strengthen their wide areas, where they already have Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe to play.

There is little doubt, though, that Real Madrid will try to offload Hazard in the summer due to his high wages and their desire to add both Kylian Mbappe of PSG and Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund to their ranks.

It appears that Hazard might be open to Arsenal, and his options are likely to be limited due to the financial issues presently impacting many of the game’s leading clubs.
