A move to Barcelona would be the perfect transfer for Rashford and Man Utd
Manchester United will undoubtedly need to conduct a huge overhaul of their squad this summer if they hope to get back to the top of English and European football one day.
Despite the best efforts of interim manager Ralf Rangnick, a recent thrashing to Manchester City in the league and elimination from the Champions League at the hand of Atletico Madrid undoubtedly showcases just how far off the pace the Old Trafford side are.
That likely means a number of stars could find themselves on the transfer list come the end of the season, and according to the Manchester Evening News Barcelona may already be willing to take forward Marcus Rashford off his club’s hands in the summer.
However, while fans may be reluctant to see the young star move on, a transfer to the Catalan giants may in fact work out perfectly for all parties involved.
Barca get the forward they always wanted
While Barcelona spent a considerable amount of money on forwards in January, the club are still without a proven No.9 that they can rely upon in the long-term.
Adama Traoree, Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres are all forwards that prefer to play out wide, while Martin Braithwaite, Luuk de Jong and most notably Pierre-Emerick Aubammeyang are all undoubtedly short-term options for the club in attack.
In Rashford, Barca would be signing a player that needs a fresh start but is also still at the start of his career. At 24 years of age, the England international could easily lead the Catalan side’s front line for the next six or seven years before even worrying about any decline from age. And that’s perhaps why he’d be the perfect fit for Barca this summer.
Man Utd can cash in on a dud
If Rashford’s Man Utd career is beyond saving then the club would do well to cash in on the player this summer. And fortunately for the Old Trafford side, the forward is still worth a lot of money.
Due to his age, previous success at Man Utd and a contract that still has over 12 months left to run, Rashford is currently valued at €64 million. Which isn’t bad at all, considering how poor he has been this season.
It’s highly unlikely that Barca would pay that much for the out-of-form star, but even a transfer of around €50m would go some way to helping Man Utd bring in other targets and draw a neat line under the forward’s time at the club.
