The seven strikers who could transfer to Arsenal this summer

After losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January and Alexandre Lacazette to Lyon on a free transfer this summer, Arsenal have a huge shortage in forward areas.

Eddie Nketiah, who did renew his contract, is the only senior striker at the club.

Arsenal have thus made the signing of at least one top number nine a priority this summer, although it's possible two could join.

What strikers could join Arsenal this summer?

Gabriel Jesus

Gabriel Jesus is the favourite to arrive at the Emirates this summer in a deal that could be worth more than €40 million.

The Brazilian is surplus to requirements at the Etihad after City completed the transfer of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Jesus' contract at City expires in 2023 so the club are happy to sell him in order to make something on him.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a fan of Jesus and at 25 he fits in with the Gunners' young model.

Arsenal were in advanced negotiations to complete the deal but the deal has slowed down in recent weeks.

Gianluca Scamacca

Arsenal have had a €35m transfer bid for Sassuolo star striker Gianluca Scamacca rejected, according to a number of reliable sources in the Italian media.

SportItalia transfer guru Alfredo Pedulla, among others, report that Arsenal tabled an opening offer for the Italy international at the end of May.

However, Sassuolo rejected the bid and, according to Calciomercato, have set an asking price of €40m plus add-ons in order to do business.

PSG are also in talks for Scamacca and are the favourites to sign the attacker.

Scamacca stands at 6ft 5in and was labelled as the 'Italian Zlatan' as he was growing up. He is regarded as Italy's next long-term number nine.

Tammy Abraham

Arsenal were close to signing Tammy Abraham last summer, but after a long pursuit of the Englishman, Chelsea decided to sell to Roma instead.

In Serie A, under Jose Mourinho, Abraham has hit new heights and he broke Roma's club record for goals scored in a player's debut campaign, previously held by Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta.

Abraham netted 27 goals in all competitions and won the Europa Conference League, but could be out of reach for Arsenal. His form has alerted many clubs across Europe, and it would take a big offer for Roma to sell just a year after he arrived in Italy.

Victor Osimhen

Osimhen has been a revelation at Napoli ever since joining the club from Lille two years ago and was one of the major reasons behind their Scudetto challenge this season.

The Nigerian is both a modern and traditional number 9, with all the physical and technical qualities to shine at Old Trafford. He is arguably the best striker in Serie A along with new Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic.

The one sticking point will be doing business with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who will certainly demand at least €100 million for the attacker.

However, Osimhen would like to move to the Premier League. Man Utd are also interested.

Jonathan David

The next name on the list is Lille forward Jonathan David, who has taken his level up a notch this past season. After helping the French side to the Ligue 1 title last year, despite a limited role, David has come to prominence this year and has thrived under the spotlight.

He helped Canada booked their place at the Qatar World Cup, which will be their first appearance in the competition since 1986, and has been one of Europe's most prolific forwards this term.

Football.London understand that David is a target for the Gunners this summer, which is no surprise given his tally of 19 goals this past season.

Also capable of dropping deep and linking play, David would be an ideal Lacazette replacement.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

A vastly different player to David, but one just as effective on his day, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is another major transfer target for Arsenal.

The Everton forward has suffered with injury problems this past season, which explains his mediocre goal tally of just five, but remains a potent striker. A far greater aerial threat than David, the Englishman would provide something a little different for Arsenal.

Olivier Giroud was much-maligned as a target man at the Emirates, but he was very effective and Calvert-Lewin could perform a similar role. He's been linked with a move away from Goodison Park all season and Arsenal appears the most likely destination.

Alexander Isak

Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak was heavily praised during last summer's European Championship, but he's failed to kick on this season. Although he netted 17 La Liga goals during the 2020/21 campaign, that tally was just six this time around.

The Sweden international is still highly-rated, however, and Arsenal are keen on adding him to their squad. He struck up an impressive relationship with Martin Odegaard during their time at Sociedad together, and that could be key in a bid for the forward this summer.

Sport have reported that the Gunners have made contact with the player, but a stay in La Liga is also being touted, with Isak keen to play at the highest level.
