Conte drops massive Spurs exit hint – but where could he go?
Antonio Conte has dropped the biggest hint yet that he could depart Tottenham in the summer.
The Italian has had a difficult relationship with the club he arrived at as a replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo in the autumn. During the January transfer window, for example, he claimed that he did not have the backing he wanted from the club’s board.
This has led to the suggestion he could leave after less than a year in charge of the London club, despite dragging them into contention for a Champions League place next season.
Conte has done little to play these suggestions down.
Speaking on Saturday, he said: “At the end of the season, we speak with the club to find the best solution for everybody. I am enjoying it a lot in Tottenham, then we will see.
“Don’t forget I like to have ambition, I want to to fight for trophies - not for only sixth or eight place.”
Where could Conte wind up next season?
Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with a move for Conte, particularly as Mauricio Pochettino’s stock drops off the back of a disjointed campaign with the French club.
They are also likely to be the only elite club changing manager in the summer, given that Manchester United have already thrown their lot in with Erik ten Hag.
Conte, as he freely admits, wants to be at a team where he can win honours, which means the number of clubs he could leave for are small. A return to Juventus could also be possible, depending on how Massimiliano Allegri finishes the campaign in Turin.
It is, of course, simply possible that Conte is using his reputation as leverage in a bid to have Spurs bow to his transfer requests, potentially making the Premier League outfit more viable trophy winners next season in the process.
