So how will Arsenal line up with Jesus?

Well, Aaron Ramsdale will naturally be the goalkeeper having enjoyed a wonderful first season at the club having displaced Bernd Leno.

Takehiro Tomiyasu – his 2022 injury notwithstanding – also had an excellent first season after arriving at Bologna and will continue at right-back.

Kieran Tierney has emerged as one of the best left-backs in the league, while Ben White and Gabriel have formed an excellent centre-back partnership. There is no reason to change any of this, even if Mikel Arteta will look for more depth.

In midfield, Granit Xhaka’s future is not certain but for now he starts along with Thomas Partey in the double pivot.

In the attacking midfield roles, Bukayo Saka picks himself on the right-wing. Martin Odegaard is first-choice as the attacking central midfielder but Emile Smith Rowe can also play there. On the left, Gabriel Martinelli and Smith Rowe will rotate.

Arsenal also have brought in more depth by signing Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira.

Then we come to Gabriel Jesus, who will occupy the striker role and Arsenal will hope he will give them something they have lacked this season – a top-class number 9.

Alexandre Lacazette has left on a free transfer, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona in the January transfer window. Eddie Nketiah, however, has been rewarded for his excellent end-of-season form with a new long-term deal.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will probably sign another attacker this summer. Gabriel Jesus, though, will be the starting striker.
