Liverpool and Arsenal enter Gnabry race amid uncertain Bayern future
Liverpool and Arsenal are among the clubs reportedly in the race for Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry, who could leave the Allianz Arena this transfer window.
Gnabry, 26, helped Bayern seal their 10th consecutive Bundesliga title with a 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 23 April, scoring the opening goal.
However, questions have emerged surrounding his future at the club in recent months.
The Germany international joined Bayern from Werder Bremen in 2017, before being loaned out to Hoffenheim for the 2017/18 season. He returned the following year and he been a star ever since. But, the contract extension he signed back in 2019 is due to end next summer.
It means that Bayern will either need to agree to a new deal with the player, or sell him this upcoming transfer window in order to avoid the risk of losing Gnabry on a free transfer.
Despite featuring in every one of Bayern's league games so far this season, with 22 starts, it's understood that Gnabry isn't completely content in Bavaria.
The presence of Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman has meant the trio have shared the workload and although Gnabry has played the most regularly out of the three, it's reported that he's considering his future at the club.
Gnabry would be happy to extend his stay at Bayern, but the Daily Star have reported that he's holding out for a contract worth €15.5million (£13m) per year, which works out to a weekly wage of roughly €295,000 (£250,000).
This has alerted several clubs around Europe to his potential availability this summer. With 103 goal contributions in 168 Bayern appearances, Gnabry has proven himself to be one of Europe's best forwards and many clubs are reportedly pursuing a move.
Real Madrid are one of the club understood to be interested, but any move from Los Blancos will rely on shifting players off the books and may depend on whether Kylian Mbappe signs for the club.
Gnabry to Liverpool?
Fichajes have reported that Gnabry is on Liverpool's radar and believe the Merseyside club have enquired about a summer move.
The future of Mohamed Salah has still not been resolved and, like Gnabry, the Egyptian's contract is due to expire in 2023.
Despite signing Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in the past two years, Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants to continue bolstering his attack in the knowledge that Divock Origi is likely to join AC Milan this summer.
However, it remains to be seen if a move for Gnabry is directly linked with Salah's future. If competition for places is a concern at Bayern, then the Germany international will face an even trickier task at Anfield.
Gnabry back to Arsenal?
Fichajes also report that Arsenal are viewing the potential of bringing Gnabry back to the Emirates. The forward joined Arsenal's academy from Stuttgart in 2011, but left after just 18 appearances and an unsuccessful loan spell at West Brom.
However, Mikel Arteta's side are reportedly keen on giving Gnabry a second chance at the club, although he will be competing with some of the Gunners' young stars for a starting position.
Gnabry would likely slot in as a left-sided forward in order to maintain Bukayo Saka's position on the right.
Gnabry to Tottenham?
A third possible destination for Gnabry is Arsenal's North London rivals Tottenham.
According to the Daily Star, Spurs are planning a move for Gnabry in a bid to close the gap to the teams at the top of the Premier League.
Antonio Conte is said to be a great admirer of the player who is well-known to Tottenham fans after his four-goal display in a 7-2 win over Spurs in the Champions League back in 2019.
Conte is reportedly pushing for the move, in the knowledge it could be achieved for a cut-price fee given Gnbary's contract expires next year.
