Gabriel Jesus is one of football’s great enigmas.
He is widely recognised by those who work inside the game as one of the best number nines in world football.

Indeed, whenever it is reported that the Brazilian may be leaving Manchester City, there is immediately a queue of some of the biggest teams in Europe for his services.
Yet, equally, there is a feeling of confusion with fans and even the forward’s own manager Pep Guardiola over just how much Jesus can be trusted.

This can be demonstrated by the fact that ahead of Man City’s big top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool, Jesus had not scored a Premier League goal since September.
He had also started only 15 Premier League games from a possible 30.
Yet, Guardiola trusted Jesus from the start against Liverpool in a game which will likely decide who win the Premier League title this season.
He was a constant threat during the first half, going close on a number of occasions before putting City back into the lead at 2-1 just before half-time by wonderfully steering home the ball at the back post from Joao Cancelo’s cross.
It was Jesus’ brilliant movement that ensured he darted in behind the sleeping Trent Alexander-Arnold and that proved decisive.

This value, which is the 25th highest in world football, is reached by using an algorithm that uses hundreds of in-game data points to gain an accurate assessment of his performance and, therefore, value on a match-by-match basis. It also takes into account such as contract length, age and status of the club he is playing for.
Although it was only Jesus’ third Premier League goal of the season, all three of these strikes have been against big clubs.
He scored a crucial winner at Stamford Bridge to give City a 1-0 win over a Chelsea team who back in September were considered by many as the favourites for the Premier League.
He also found the net in the 5-0 thrashing of top-four challengers Arsenal and got an assist in the reverse fixture against Liverpool – a 2-2 draw at Anfield. In total, he has an impressive nine assists this term, showing how important he is for the team.
And, in the biggest club competition of all, the Champions League, Jesus has showed his pedigree this season. He scored three times in the groups and scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over PSG, also making the other goal.
For well over a year, Man City have been searching for a superstar number nine – with Erling Haaland the main target.
Jesus’ contract expires in 2023 and if he doesn’t pen a new contract he will likely be sold this summer.
He won’t be as easy to replace as many think.
