Next Man Utd manager: Why Ten Hag announcement could be WEEKS away
Manchester United could be weeks away from announcing their next manager if comments made by favourite Erik ten Hag are anything to go by.
The Ajax boss is presently the favourite to win the race for the Old Trafford hotseat, having become the fans’ favourite ahead of Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino to take over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Ten Hag has impressed at Ajax both domestically and in Europe, while the exciting style that his team play with is something that has won over Man Utd supporters.
Any thoughts that there might be a quick resolution to the case, though, seem to have been put on ice by the Dutchman, who discussed his situation with German outlet Sport1.
Ten Hag admitted that there have been talks with other clubs but stopped short at naming Man Utd, while he also hinted at a timeframe that it may take for any announcement to be made.
“I’ve sat down with Ajax after every season so far and that will be the case this time,” he said.
“Everyone knows each other in the industry. There are always talks with representatives from other clubs, that’s normal.
“Manchester United is a great club with great fans, but I can only repeat myself: my full focus is completely on Ajax. We’re already planning for the new season.
“I can say that Ajax and Erik ten Hag are very happy with each other at the moment.”
Meanwhile, he openly admitted that he hopes to work in Germany as a head coach one day, having previously been an assistant at Bayern Munich.
“The Bundesliga is a fantastic league and I hope to work there in the future,” he said.
When does Ajax’s season finish?
Ajax will round off their 2021/22 season on 15 May with a trip to Vitesse, which promises to be their coach’s final match in charge.
It would be little surprise to see Ten Hag announced as Man Utd manager the following week if he is to be the new manager, particularly since Rangnick’s role is a temporary one.
